Quora’s Poe releases a developer API with access to a bouquet of AI models

Poe’s API: Another Fucking Platform for LLMs

Oh, Great. More APIs.

So, apparently Quora – yes, that Quora – is letting developers mess with their Poe platform via an API now. Big fucking deal. They’re basically throwing open the doors to a bunch of models (GPT-4o, Claude 3 Opus, Gemini 1.5 Pro…the usual suspects) so anyone with half a brain and a credit card can build *another* chatbot. Like we needed more.

They’re touting “easy access” and “unified billing.” Translation: they want your money and to offload the cost of running these resource hogs onto someone else. They’ll take a cut, naturally. Because everything is about taking a cut. It’s all about making it easier for *them*, not you.

They’re also trying to be clever with rate limits and usage-based pricing. Expect to spend half your life fighting their system just to get anything useful done, I guarantee it. And don’t even THINK about scaling without a dedicated account manager who will promptly ignore your pleas for help.

Honestly? It’s just another way to fragment the LLM landscape and make everything more complicated. But hey, at least someone is trying to monetize this AI craze further. Because that’s all anyone cares about these days.

Speaking of APIs and wasted effort, I once spent three days debugging a vendor’s REST endpoint that was returning perfectly valid JSON… in ISO-8859-1 encoding. ISO-8859-1! The sheer audacity. I still have nightmares about it. Don’t expect anything better from this Poe API nonsense.
