Shutdown Threatens US Intel Sharing, Cyber Defense

Ugh. Another Fucking Disaster.

Seriously? They’re Shutting Down *More* Stuff?!

Right, so listen up, because this is infuriatingly predictable. The US government – specifically DHS and its Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) – is about to potentially cripple a vital intel-sharing program called the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative (JCDC). Why? Because some politicians are whining about funding and oversight. Apparently, actually *doing* cybersecurity isn’t as important as… well, I don’t know what it IS important to them, but it sure ain’t protecting us.

The JCDC is supposed to be a place where public and private sector entities share threat intelligence. You know, the whole “information is power” thing? But now, thanks to bureaucratic bullshit and penny-pinching, it’s facing a complete shutdown if they can’t get their act together. This means less warning about attacks, slower response times, and generally more opportunities for assholes to wreak havoc.

They’re talking about “restructuring” and finding “alternative solutions.” Oh, *great*. More meetings, more reports, more useless PowerPoints while the bad guys are actively breaking into everything. The private sector is already pissed because they actually used this thing, unlike some government initiatives that just sit there looking pretty. And of course, everyone’s pointing fingers at each other.

Honestly, it’s a clusterfuck. A complete and utter clusterfuck. Don’t expect anything good to come from this. Just more vulnerabilities and bigger breaches. You heard it here first.

And a Story For Ya…

I once had to debug a system where the entire network was down because someone decided to “improve” security by blocking *all* outbound traffic except for DNS. All of it. Including NTP. Yeah, try timing anything when your clocks are drifting faster than a politician’s promises. It took me three hours and a whole lot of caffeine to convince them that blocking essential services isn’t “security,” it’s just…stupidity. This JCDC thing feels exactly like that level of shortsighted idiocy.
