Microsoft Word will save your files to the cloud by default

Microsoft’s Latest Bullshit

Oh, For Fucking Christ Sake… Microsoft Word Now Saves to the Cloud By Default

Right. So, apparently, Microsoft thinks you’re too stupid to decide where your goddamn files go. As of… sometime soon (because they can’t even give a firm date, naturally), Word is going to start automatically saving everything to OneDrive. Yes, everything. They call it “seamless collaboration” – I call it forced cloud adoption and another excuse for them to shove their subscription services down your throat.

They’re trying to spin this as a good thing, saying it’s for people who *don’t* use OneDrive already (like those mythical creatures). But let’s be real: they want you locked into their ecosystem. You can change it back, of course – buried in settings like everything else they don’t want you to easily find. And if you’re on a business account? Good luck, IT department, you’ve got another fire to put out.

It’s all about “modern work,” apparently. Translation: more data for Microsoft, less control for you. They’ll be “phasing” this in, which means they’re testing the waters to see how much whining they can tolerate before fully implementing this crap. Expect updates, expect headaches, and expect to spend half your day fighting with settings just to get back to basic functionality.

Honestly, it’s infuriating. They don’t trust you to manage your own files. They want a piece of everything. It’s the same old story: convenience as a Trojan horse for data harvesting and vendor lock-in.

Speaking of cloud nonsense, I once had to recover a server after some “helpful” IT guy migrated everything to Box without backups. Lost three days worth of critical data because the Box API decided to take a vacation. Yeah, *seamless*. Don’t even get me started.
