Anthropic users face a new choice – opt out or share your data for AI training

Anthropic’s Latest Bullshit

Seriously? Another Data Grab.

Oh, fantastic. Anthropic, those geniuses over there at Claude, have decided they need even MORE of your data to make their AI slightly less…stupid. As if the endless scraping wasn’t enough. Now they’re giving you a “choice.” A choice between letting them hoover up everything you type for “training purposes” or actively jumping through hoops to opt-out. Like it’s some kind of generous offer instead of blatant exploitation.

They claim this is about improving Claude 3.5 and future models, blah, blah, blah. Translation: they want more free data because building AI is expensive and apparently users are just walking, talking datasets. They’re even sweetening the deal with a “privacy-preserving” option that…still involves sharing *something*. Don’t fall for it.

The default? Data sharing, naturally. Because why would they make it easy to protect your privacy when they can just quietly suck up everything and hope nobody notices? It’s all very “user-centric” if you define “user” as a resource to be mined. And of course, this only applies to new users – existing ones get the joy of figuring out how to disable it later. Wonderful.

Honestly, I’m starting to think these AI companies believe we *want* them to know our deepest secrets just so they can generate slightly more coherent marketing copy. It’s infuriating. Just…infuriating.

Speaking of data, I once had to debug a system where the developers were using user error logs as training data for their “helpful” chatbot. The chatbot started responding to legitimate support requests with variations of “Have you tried turning it off and on again…and also telling us everything about your personal life?”. It was a disaster. A glorious, screaming disaster. And they wondered why users were complaining.
