Picklescan Bungles it Again: PyTorch Models Slip Through Like Greased Weasels
Well, what a bloody surprise — another week, another pile of flaming digital rubbish. This time, the geniuses at PyTorch had a fancy little “security” tool called Picklescan that was supposed to catch malicious models before they turned your machine into a crypto-mining toaster. Guess what? It’s riddled with enough holes to make Swiss cheese blush. Some bright bastards found bugs that let malicious PyTorch model files bypass the scans, gain remote code execution, and basically moonwalk right past your so-called protection.
So yeah, if you thought downloading random AI models from the internet was a smart idea, congratulations — you’ve just volunteered your system for a round of “guess what malware you just installed.” The vulnerabilities in Picklescan mean that malicious pickle files can sidestep detection and execute arbitrary crap on your box. Brilliant. All because somebody thought “pickle” was a great serialization format for complex AI code. Nothing suspicious about a format literally designed to execute arbitrary Python objects, right? Holy shit, who could have seen this coming… oh wait, *everyone with a pulse*.
The maintainers have patched the bloody thing now, of course — after the internet screamed at them. But let’s be real, if you were relying on this dumpster fire for your security scans, you’re already in trouble. Next time you “pip install” a random model, maybe consider that it might also be installing ransomware, or worse, some script kiddie’s crypto wallet miner.
Anyway, the moral of this shitshow: trust AI models about as far as you can throw your server. Make sure your dependencies are updated, read your damn security notes, and for the love of caffeine, stop letting unverified code anywhere near production. Security is hard enough without programs named after *pickles* screwing it all up.

Reminds me of the time a developer asked why their “AI safety scanner” kept sending segfaults to the production box. Turns out they ran it with root permissions and no sandbox… because “test environments are slow.” The only thing slower was their realization that they’d just opened the gates of hell.
