US sanctions North Korean firm, nationals behind IT worker schemes

Ugh, More North Korean Bullshit

Seriously? *Still* With This Crap?

Right, so the US Treasury Department is slapping sanctions on a bunch of North Koreans and their pathetic little front company, Chollima Development. Apparently, these chuckleheads have been running an elaborate scheme to get IT workers – pretending to be legitimate freelancers – jobs overseas to funnel money back to Kim Jong-un’s regime. Like we didn’t already know this was happening.

They’re using fake IDs, bogus companies registered in places like China and Russia (shocker), and generally being as dishonest as humanly possible. They target crypto exchanges, web development gigs – anything they can scam their way into. The US is trying to cut off their access to the financial system, which, honestly, should have been done years ago.

They’ve even named a few of the key players involved. Names you won’t recognize and probably don’t care about. It’s all just… exhausting. More sanctions, more names, same goddamn problem. They’ll just pop up with new identities and keep doing it. Honestly, what do they expect to accomplish?

The whole thing is a massive headache for everyone involved except, apparently, the North Korean government who are happily laundering money through unsuspecting companies. And we’re supposed to be impressed that the US *finally* noticed? Give me a break.

Related Anecdote: Back in ’98, I had to deal with a Romanian phishing operation. Similar story – fake emails, stolen credentials, the whole nine yards. Spent three days tracing it back to a single internet cafe and a guy running a dial-up connection. The sheer audacity of these people… It’s always the same. They think they’re clever, but they’re just irritatingly persistent. And now North Korea is doing it on an industrial scale? Fantastic.
