Allianz Life hit by hackers, customer and staff personal data stolen

Allianz Life Got Pwned. Seriously.

Another Fucking Data Breach. Allianz Life Edition.

Oh joy. Another financial institution decided security wasn’t worth the effort, and now everyone is paying for it. Allianz Life got hit with a cyberattack – surprise, surprise – and they’re admitting to personal data being nicked from both customers AND staff. We’re talking names, addresses, Social Security numbers (because *of course*), and other sensitive crap.

Apparently, some scumbags managed to get in through a vulnerability (details are sketchy as hell, naturally) sometime in October 2023, and they were poking around for weeks before Allianz even noticed. Weeks! You’d think a company handling people’s life savings would have better monitoring than my grandma has for her bingo nights.

They’re offering credit monitoring and identity theft protection – because that totally fixes everything, right? Like a band-aid on a severed limb. They claim they’ve patched the hole (yeah, sure you did) and are “working with law enforcement” (which means PR is working overtime). Expect notifications if your data was compromised, but honestly, at this point, assume it was. Everyone’s data is compromised.

Honestly, I’m starting to think these companies *want* to get hacked. It builds character or something. Or maybe they just enjoy the chaos. Either way, it’s a colossal pain in the ass for everyone involved except the assholes who did it.

Speaking of incompetence, I once had to rebuild a server farm because some intern thought it was a good idea to use “password” as the root password. Password. The sheer audacity. And they wondered why everything kept crashing. Some people shouldn’t be allowed near computers, let alone entrusted with sensitive data. It’s infuriating.
