Seriously?! Another One.
Oh, joy. Allianz Life got their asses handed to them in a data breach. Apparently, “a majority” – and let’s be real, that probably means all of them – had their personal info nicked. We’re talking names, addresses, Social Security numbers… the whole damn kit and kaboodle. They’re blaming it on some misconfigured security settings back in 2019. 2019?! Are you fucking kidding me? That’s like leaving your front door open for five years and then acting surprised when someone walks in.
They’re offering credit monitoring and identity theft protection, which is just a fancy way of saying “Here’s some bullshit to make you feel better while we clean up our mess.” And naturally, they didn’t discover this until *now*. Fantastic. Just fantastic security practices all around.
The worst part? They don’t even know exactly what was stolen from everyone yet. So basically, everyone should assume the worst and start bracing for a lifetime of spam calls and potential financial ruin. Wonderful. Absolutely bloody wonderful.
Honestly, I’m starting to think these companies *want* to get hacked. It’s cheaper than actually securing their systems, probably.

Related Anecdote: Back in ’98, I had a sysadmin tell me “Security through obscurity is good enough.” I promptly reconfigured his account to have the password “password”. He didn’t last long. Some things never change, apparently.
