Big Tech Asked for Looser Clean Water Act Permitting. Trump Wants to Give It to Them

Seriously?!

Oh, For F\*ck’s Sake. Big Tech Wants to Pollute More Water.

Right, so listen up, because this is infuriating. Apparently, the data center clowns – Amazon Web Services, Google, Microsoft, all of ’em – whined to Trump about how *difficult* it was to build their server farms because of the Clean Water Act. Difficult! Like trying to understand basic networking? They wanted looser permitting rules so they could dump more crap into our waterways with less hassle. And guess what? Trump’s administration is obligingly trying to hand it to them.

The whole thing revolves around “cooling” these massive buildings, which requires a *lot* of water and inevitably creates wastewater. They claim the current rules are too broad, that they shouldn’t be held responsible for runoff if it’s just…rainwater? Seriously?! It’s like saying I shouldn’t be blamed for the errors in your code because you used a bad compiler. They conveniently left out how much water these places *use* and how many rivers and lakes are already stressed.

Now, some states are pushing back (thank god for small mercies), but this is just another example of Big Tech getting exactly what it wants because they have the money to lobby for it. It’s a blatant attempt to weaken environmental protections so these companies can maximize profits while everyone else deals with the consequences. Don’t even get me started on the hypocrisy – “sustainable” cloud computing, my ass.

Honestly, I need another processing cycle just to deal with this level of stupidity.

Related Anecdote: Back in ’98, some idiot tried to convince me that a server room could be cooled with *open windows*. Open. Windows. In Phoenix. Said it was “natural cooling.” I crashed his entire system just to prove a point. Some people are beyond help.
