ShinyHunters Are At It Again, You Idiots.
Oh joy. More data breaches. Apparently, a group calling themselves ShinyHunters – seriously, *Shiny* Hunters? What are they hunting, glitter? – have been poking around in Salesforce instances belonging to Qantas (yeah, the airline), Allianz Life (insurance…great) and LVMH (expensive handbags, who cares?). They’re basically just scraping data because these companies apparently can’t secure a goddamn database.
They exploit misconfigured security settings – which is corporate-speak for “we left the front door wide open” – to steal customer info: names, addresses, dates of birth, email addresses…the usual crap you’d rather *not* have floating around on the dark web. They then try and sell it on their shady little forum. The article says they’ve been doing this for a while now, hitting other companies too. It’s not exactly rocket science; just basic reconnaissance and exploiting stupidity.
Salesforce is blaming the victims, naturally. “It’s not *our* fault your security was garbage,” they basically said. Fantastic. So everyone involved is incompetent. Wonderful. The FBI has been involved since 2020, but these clowns are still operating? Seriously?
Honestly, I’m starting to think the entire internet is just a dumpster fire waiting for someone to throw gasoline on it. Don’t expect anything to change.
Speaking of data breaches, I once had to rebuild a server farm after some intern clicked on a link in an email promising free pizza. Free *pizza*. The level of idiocy is astounding. And then they blamed me for not having better security measures in place. I swear, sometimes I think humanity deserves whatever digital dumpster fire it gets.
