Oh, Joy. Kali Linux Now Runs In Apple Containers.
Right, so some developers decided that having Kali Linux run perfectly fine in virtual machines wasn’t enough of a pain in the ass for people. Now you can cram it into Apple containers on macOS. Fantastic. Just what we needed – another layer of abstraction to screw up when things inevitably go sideways.
Apparently, this is thanks to some “new integration” and lets you run Kali without needing a full VM image. Which means… more potential for conflicts, more headaches debugging weird container issues, and probably slower performance than just using a proper virtual machine. They’re touting it as good for testing and development. Yeah, sure. Because everyone *loves* adding another dependency to their workflow.
It uses something called “Shark” which is basically a tool to make this whole mess easier. Easier for who exactly? The masochists who wanted this in the first place, I presume. You can get it from GitHub, naturally. Because everything has to be on GitHub these days.
Honestly, if you’re struggling with Kali, a container isn’t going to magically fix your problems. Learn virtualization. It’s less of a clusterfuck. But hey, go ahead, waste your time. Don’t come crying to me when it breaks.
Speaking of containers, I once had a user try to run a production database in Docker on their laptop “for testing.” It predictably melted their entire system. They then asked *me* why it didn’t work. Some people just want to watch the world burn, and drag you down with them. Don’t be that person.
