OpenAI says ChatGPT is on track to reach 700M weekly users

ChatGPT’s User Numbers – Ugh.

Seriously? More People Using ChatGPT. Fantastic.

Right, so OpenAI is patting themselves on the back because ChatGPT is apparently going to hit 700 million weekly users by… sometime soon. Like that’s a *good* thing. They’re boasting about growth, claiming it’s “on track” – as if anything these days isn’t “on track” for some inflated metric. They’ve got all sorts of fancy new features to keep the masses hooked: GPT-4o is apparently doing well, and they’re shoving more custom GPTs down everyone’s throats. And now they want you to pay them even MORE money with Team plans? Seriously?!

The article also mentions some vague stuff about “engagement” being up – meaning people are spending more time asking it stupid questions, no doubt. They’re trying to monetize this thing as hard as possible, and the fact that so many people are falling for it just… infuriates me. They’re even talking about *revenue* growth. Of course they are. It’s all about the goddamn money with these people.

Oh, and apparently Microsoft is happy too because Copilot is benefiting from this whole mess. Surprise, surprise. Everyone’s just chasing the AI hype train like a bunch of lemmings.

Honestly, it’s depressing. Just… depressing.

I once had to debug a script that was *entirely* generated by an early LLM. It took me three days, and it was mostly just… wrong. Gloriously, spectacularly wrong. The user insisted it was “AI powered” so obviously any errors were my fault for not understanding the brilliance of the machine. I swear, sometimes I think humanity is actively trying to make things worse.
