Oh, *Great*. Another Feature I Have to Explain.
Right, so Microsoft decided everyone needs a chatty little AI sidekick in Edge. Copilot. Fantastic. Apparently it’s been lurking there all along, disabled by default because even they know how annoying this shit is going to be. This article details how to turn the damn thing on if you’re some kind of masochist.
Basically, you gotta fiddle with flags in Edge – `edge://flags/#copilot-mode`. Enable it, restart the browser (because *of course* you do), and now you have a sidebar full of… well, whatever Copilot thinks you want. You can also enable it via Intune if your organization is stupid enough to force this on everyone. There’s even a group policy setting for those dinosaurs still using that garbage.
It uses Bing AI under the hood, so expect all the usual corporate-filtered nonsense and hallucinations. They *do* mention you can use it in “InPrivate” mode too, which is just… great. More privacy violations, yay! And if you’re on Windows 10, good luck; it’s a bit more involved because Microsoft hates older operating systems (and probably you).
Honestly? Just leave it disabled. Your life will be better. But fine, here’s the link if you insist on suffering.
Look, I once had to explain how to copy and paste a file path to a senior engineer. A *senior* engineer. This Copilot thing feels like that, but for everyone. It’s solving a problem nobody asked for with technology nobody needs. Don’t blame me when it starts suggesting you rewrite your code in PowerShell.
