PBS confirms data breach after employee info leaked on Discord servers

PBS? More Like Pathetic Breach Security.

Seriously, PBS Got Hacked. Again.

Oh, for the love of all that is holy… Public Broadcasting Service – yeah, that PBS – just confirmed a data breach. Apparently, some employee info got dumped onto Discord servers. Like, seriously? Discord? Is this 1998 again? Some idiot(s) managed to snag names, addresses, Social Security numbers (SSNs!), and even bank account details of their staff. Fantastic.

They’re blaming a compromised employee account – surprise, surprise. It’s always “a compromised account.” Never any actual security measures, just finger-pointing at the poor sap who probably got phished while trying to watch *Antiques Roadshow*. They claim they’re notifying affected employees and offering credit monitoring. Credit monitoring? That’s their solution? Like that actually fixes anything beyond a temporary band-aid on a gaping wound of incompetence.

The worst part? This isn’t some sophisticated nation-state attack, it was just…leaked on Discord. A public forum! I swear, if I were running security for PBS, the first thing I’d do is fire everyone and start over. But hey, at least we can all enjoy more educational programming while our personal data floats around the internet. Wonderful.

Don’t bother asking me what you should do about it. Change everything. Assume *everything* is compromised. And maybe switch to streaming cat videos instead of relying on PBS for anything important.

Related Anecdote (Because You Apparently Need One)

I once had to rebuild a server farm because someone thought it was a good idea to store the root password in a publicly accessible text file. A text file. PBS is giving me flashbacks, honestly. The level of stupidity is… breathtaking.
