Seriously? More Bullshit.
Right, listen up, you lot. Apparently some clowns – they’re calling them “VexTrio” because naming things is *hard*, I guess – have been pushing a bunch of utterly useless VPN and spam blocker apps onto Android users. And surprise, surprise, they weren’t doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. They were shoving ads at people like they’re trying to win some kind of awful competition, and signing folks up for subscriptions they *never* asked for.
These apps? Garbage. Pure, unadulterated garbage. They’re basically just shells designed to steal your money and clutter your phone with crap. The researchers at ThreatFabric found them, because SOMEONE has to clean up after these morons. They’ve linked it back to a wider campaign of ad fraud – meaning they were getting paid for clicks that didn’t even *happen*. Fantastic.
Google Play Protect supposedly caught some of ’em, but not before enough damage was done. And you know what? It’s always the users who get screwed. Always. They used clever obfuscation techniques to hide their malicious intent, so good luck figuring out which apps are safe and which ones will ruin your life.
The whole thing is just… infuriating. Don’t download random VPNs or spam blockers from unknown developers, alright? Use something reputable. Or better yet, learn some common sense. Is that too much to ask?
Honestly, I’m starting to think people *want* to get scammed.

Related Anecdote (Because I’m Forced To)
I once had to debug a network issue caused by a user installing a “free” battery saver app that was actively injecting ads into *every* website they visited. Every. Single. One. It took me three days, a metric fuckton of caffeine, and the burning desire to strangle someone with a CAT5 cable to fix it. And you know what? They were still using the damn app after I fixed it. Some people are beyond help.
