Google’s AI coding agent Jules is now out of beta

Jules is Out… Whatever.

Google’s Jules: Officially Released. Prepare for Disappointment.

Right, so Google finally shoved their AI coding agent, “Jules,” out of beta. Big fucking deal. Apparently, it can now handle more complex tasks – like refactoring code and writing tests *without* constant hand-holding. They’re bragging about how it integrates with Vertex AI and supports Python, Java, Go, JavaScript, C++, and TypeScript. Oh joy.

What this really means is another tool for junior devs to create even more unmaintainable garbage while thinking they’re hot shit. It’s still a Google product, so expect it to be overly complicated and require a PhD in Cloud Architecture just to get it running. They claim “significant improvements” but let’s be real, it’ll probably hallucinate half the time and suggest security vulnerabilities that would make your sysadmin weep.

And of course, it’s priced per token. Because everything has to be a goddamn subscription these days. They’re trying to sell you “AI productivity” but really they’re selling you another way to bleed money while hoping an algorithm does the work *you* should be doing.

They also mention some enterprise features, because naturally. Because this isn’t about making coding easier for everyone; it’s about extracting maximum value from corporations who don’t know any better. Honestly, I expect a flood of support tickets when this thing inevitably breaks production builds.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Anecdote: Back in ’98, some bright spark thought automating shell scripting with a GUI would be a good idea. Three weeks later, the entire network was down because it generated a script that wiped out all the cron jobs. This Jules thing? It’s just a prettier version of *that*. Trust me on this one.
