Air France and KLM disclose data breaches impacting customers

Air France/KLM Data Breach – Ugh.

Seriously? Air France & KLM Got Hacked. Again.

Oh, joy. Another goddamn data breach. This time it’s Air France and KLM, because apparently securing customer data is just too hard for them. They’re admitting some personal info – names, email addresses, phone numbers, frequent flyer details… the usual crap – got nicked. They don’t even *know* exactly what was stolen yet, which means it could be everything. Fantastic.

It happened sometime in May, but they’re only just now fessing up. They’ve reset passwords as a “precaution” (like that actually does anything), and are telling people to be extra vigilant for phishing scams. Because *they* screwed up, *you* get to spend your weekend worrying about identity theft. Brilliant.

No credit card details were compromised, they claim. But honestly? I wouldn’t trust a word coming out of their mouths right now. They’re probably just trying to limit the damage control. Expect a whole lot of “we take security seriously” PR bullshit in the coming days.

Honestly, if you fly with these clowns, change *everything*. Passwords, frequent flyer numbers, everything. And maybe consider carrier pigeons next time. They’re probably more secure.

Related Anecdote (Because I Feel Like Complaining)

I once had to debug a system where the login credentials were literally “admin” and “password”. The sysadmin said, “Well, nobody ever tries it!” Yeah, well, *everyone* tries it. This Air France/KLM thing? Same energy. Pathetic security practices leading to predictable results. Don’t even get me started on their network segmentation… or lack thereof.
