Microsoft fixes Windows Server bug causing cluster, VM issues

Microsoft Screws Up Again – A Summary (Because Apparently You Can’t Fix Your Own Code)

Oh, Joy. Another Microsoft Clusterfuck.

Right, listen up, you lot. Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom (read: utter incompetence), managed to bollocks up Windows Server again. Specifically, versions 2019 and 2022 are having issues with VMs in failover clusters. Apparently, a bug was causing them to get stuck in a “Paused” state after a live migration or during maintenance. Like they couldn’t test this basic functionality before releasing it? Seriously?

The fix? A goddamn update – KB5341067 for 2019 and KB5341086 for 2022. They claim it addresses the problem, but honestly, I wouldn’t trust Microsoft to pour water straight out of a bottle without checking for malware first. Install it if you *must*, but don’t come crying to me when something else breaks because that’s just how they roll.

It affects Storage Spaces Direct (S2D) clusters too, so if you’re running one of those, get patching. And for the love of all that is holy, *back up your data*. You know, just in case Microsoft decides to “improve” things further.

Honestly, it’s a wonder anything works at all with this company. They release half-baked garbage and then expect us to clean up their mess. The audacity!

Related Anecdote (Because You Need a Warning)

I once had to deal with a similar issue on a legacy system – a *different* Microsoft product, naturally. Spent three days debugging it only to find out the problem was caused by a hotfix that Microsoft released…to fix a different problem. They literally broke more than they fixed. Three days of my life I’ll never get back. So yeah, consider this your official warning: updates are not always your friend.
