NY Business Council discloses data breach affecting 47,000 people

Seriously?! Another Breach…

Business Council of New York State? More Like Business Council of *Insecure* New York State.

Oh, joy. Another data breach. This time it’s the Business Council of New York State getting their asses handed to them on a silver platter. Apparently, some unauthorized access – surprise, surprise – exposed personal information for roughly 47,000 people. Names, addresses, driver’s license numbers, and even goddamn Social Security numbers were potentially compromised. Like they needed *more* data floating around out there.

They’re blaming a “cyber incident” which is corporate-speak for “we didn’t bother with basic security protocols.” They discovered this mess on January 23rd, and are now scrambling to notify affected individuals. Scrambling, I tell ya! Probably after the data was already sold three times over on the dark web.

They’re offering credit monitoring and identity theft protection services – because *that* fixes everything, right? Like a band-aid on a severed limb. Honestly, if you’re affected, consider yourself warned and change EVERYTHING. Don’t trust these clowns to protect your data; they clearly can’t.

The investigation is ongoing, which means more vague statements and empty promises are likely coming our way. Fantastic. Just…fantastic.

You know, reminds me of the time a “secure” medical facility lost a server full of patient records. They sent out letters…on paper. Paper! In 2015. The irony nearly killed me. And probably some patients too, if you think about it. Pathetic.
