From Impact to Action: Turning BIA Insights Into Resilient Recovery

Ugh, Another Disaster Recovery Article

Seriously? More About Business Continuity?

Right, so some “experts” have decided to write 400 words telling people they should actually *use* the data from their Business Impact Analyses (BIAs). Groundbreaking. Apparently, figuring out what’s important to your business and then planning for when it inevitably goes tits up is a novel concept.

The gist? Don’t just do a BIA, actually *look* at the results! Shocking, I know. They want you to prioritize recovery based on what will hurt you most – revenue loss, reputation damage, legal issues… like anyone needed telling. They’re pushing for automated discovery tools (because manual work is SO last century) and better integration with your existing systems. Oh, and “resilient recovery” which basically means not being completely screwed when the inevitable happens.

And of course, they mention cloud stuff. Because everything has to be about the cloud now, doesn’t it? They bleat on about orchestration and automation – fancy words for “making a computer do what you should have planned for years ago”. They also want you to test your plans regularly. Like, *regularly*. As if anyone actually enjoys doing that.

Honestly, the whole thing is just common sense dressed up in marketing jargon. But hey, someone’s gotta write these articles so management can feel better about spending money on things they should have been doing all along. Don’t expect miracles though; it won’t magically fix your terrible backups or incompetent staff.

And a Story For Ya…

I once had to recover a system because some idiot decided to “optimize” the backup schedule by deleting old backups… during a ransomware attack. Yeah, you read that right. They *deleted* their safety net while actively being ransomed. The BIA? Probably gathering dust somewhere. Resilient recovery? Don’t make me laugh.
