NotebookLMS Now Thinks It’s Babel Fish

Right. So, apparently some company called NotebookLMS – never heard of ’em, probably for good reason – has decided to add automatic video summarization in 80 languages. *Eighty*. Like that’s actually useful. They slapped an AI on top of their platform so you can get transcripts and summaries of videos in a bunch of different tongues. Big whoop.

It’s all about “accessibility” they bleat, making training materials available to more people. Yeah, sure. More likely it’s about chasing VC money by pretending to solve problems nobody asked them to fix. They claim it’s faster than hiring translators, which is just insulting to actual human beings who *understand nuance*. And of course, it supports all the usual suspects – YouTube, Vimeo, etc. Because that’s what really matters.

They even brag about “high accuracy”. Oh, I bet. Just wait until you get a summary riddled with AI hallucinations and mistranslations. It’ll be *hilarious*. The feature is rolling out now for their enterprise customers, so enjoy the inevitable flood of garbage summaries.

Honestly, it’s just another example of throwing AI at everything in hopes something sticks. Don’t get your hopes up.
