Systems are down, services are disrupted, and people can’t get what they need because someone couldn’t be bothered to patch their damn servers.

They’re saying it *might* be ransomware, which is just polite talk for “we got completely owned and now we’re negotiating with criminals.” The usual suspects are involved: third-party services being the likely entry point. Because, you know, outsourcing everything to the cheapest bidder always works out great.
