Seriously? This Again.
Right, so some company called Lessen – been around for 16 years, apparently doing… *something* with real estate tech – has decided it’s time to shove AI down the throats of small businesses who probably just want to run their shops without another goddamn buzzword complication. They’re building an “AI assistant” that handles stuff like answering phones (because humans are SO last century), scheduling, and lead follow-up. Basically, they’ve slapped a chatbot on top of existing processes and are calling it revolutionary.
The whole thing is built on top of OpenAI models, surprise fucking surprise. They’re trying to make it “easy” for businesses that don’t have the time or inclination (read: money) to build their own AI solutions. They’ve got a fancy dashboard and are promising ROI because *of course* they are. It’s all about automating tasks so these poor sods can focus on “growth” – which, let’s be real, usually means more paperwork and headaches.
Apparently, they’re doing okay, with 20k businesses using the platform and some venture capital thrown their way. Look, it’s fine. It’s just… *more*. More AI noise, more promises of efficiency that will inevitably be followed by disappointment when the bot screws up a crucial appointment or sends a completely inappropriate email. Honestly, I’m starting to think everyone just wants to replace people with slightly-less-stupid robots and call it progress.
Don’t even get me started on the “human oversight” they claim exists. It’s always there until it’s inconvenient, then suddenly it’s “the AI is learning!”.

Speaking of automation, I once had to debug a script that was supposed to automatically order toner cartridges for an entire office. It worked *too* well. Ordered enough toner to bury the building. Turns out someone hadn’t accounted for the fact that people occasionally… used less paper. The support calls were glorious. And it wasn’t even AI, just bad coding. This Lessen thing? I shudder to think of the chaos.
