Seriously?! AI Now Helps Script Kiddies Too.
Right, so some researchers – because apparently they have nothing better to do – proved you can use Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT to generate exploit code in about fifteen minutes. Fifteen. Minutes. Like anyone with half a brain wasn’t already worried enough.
They took vulnerability descriptions from databases, fed them into an AI, and *boom*, functional exploits spat out. Not perfect, mind you – they still needed some tweaking (because of course they did), but it drastically lowers the barrier to entry for anyone wanting to cause chaos. We’re talking about turning basic vuln reports into working attacks with minimal effort.
The worst part? They used a relatively weak model and didn’t even bother trying sophisticated prompting techniques. Imagine what someone actually *trying* could do. It’s not like the security industry wasn’t already drowning in alerts, now we get to sift through AI-generated garbage too.
They tested this on some vulnerable apps (because naturally) and it worked. Shocking. The article drones on about responsible disclosure and how we need better detection methods. Yeah, no shit Sherlock. Like that’s going to stop the script kiddies from abusing this.
Basically, AI is making everything worse. You heard it here first.
Look, I remember back in ’98 when some kid used a port scanner and NetBIOS enumeration to compromise half the university network. Took him all night, bragging rights for weeks. Now? An AI could probably do that before breakfast. And then write a strongly-worded email about it. The future is bleak, people. Bleak.
