Seriously? Pennsylvania’s AG Office Got Ransomed. *Again*.
Oh, joy. Another goddamn ransomware attack. This time it’s the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office that got their digital asses handed to them. Apparently, some scumbag group managed to compromise systems back in October and are now leaking data because… surprise! They want money. The AG’s office is being deliberately vague about *which* group did this – probably because they don’t actually know and are trying not to look like complete idiots.
They’re saying it affected some email systems, a website, and other stuff. “Other stuff” meaning who the hell knows what else they screwed up? They’ve brought in external cybersecurity firms (because apparently their *own* security team is about as useful as a screen door on a submarine) to clean up the mess and are notifying anyone whose data might have been pilfered. They’re also “working with law enforcement” – which translates to “we’ll issue a press release when we find absolutely nothing.”
The worst part? This isn’t some new, sophisticated attack. It sounds like basic crap that any script kiddie could pull off if they had enough time and motivation. Honestly, it’s just pathetic. And you know who *really* pays for this? The taxpayers. Fantastic.
Don’t bother asking me what the fix is. Patch your systems, use multi-factor authentication, train your employees… basic security hygiene. It’s not rocket science, people! But apparently it IS brain surgery for some organizations.
Speaking of incompetence, I once had to remotely fix a server room that was cooled by an open window and a box fan. A *box fan*. The sysadmin thought it was “good enough.” I swear, some people shouldn’t be allowed near power outlets, let alone critical infrastructure. Don’t even get me started on the lack of backups…
