Seriously? Varonis Bought *Another* Company.
Right, so listen up, because I’m only saying this once. Varonis, those data security folks – yeah, the ones who already sell you a metric fuckton of stuff – just scooped up SlashNext. SlashNext does email security, specifically trying to stop Business Email Compromise (BEC) attacks. Apparently, their AI is supposed to be good at spotting phishing crap before anyone clicks on it.
The whole point of this exercise? Varonis wants to be a “one-stop shop” for all your data loss prevention and now, apparently, stopping idiots from opening malicious emails. They’re throwing around buzzwords like “integrated platform” and “enhanced threat coverage.” Translation: they want more of your money.
SlashNext uses some fancy machine learning to analyze links and attachments *before* they cause a headache. Varonis thinks combining that with their existing data security stuff will be great. I’m sure it will, right after you spend another fortune integrating the damn thing. Expect them to tout “synergies” and “better visibility.” It’s always the same song and dance.
Honestly, I bet this is just Varonis trying to look more appealing before someone bigger decides to eat *them*. Don’t fall for it. Just keep training your users not to be complete morons and maybe, *just maybe*, you’ll have a fighting chance.

Anecdote: I once had to clean up a ransomware infection because someone clicked on an email promising free pizza. *Free Pizza*. Seriously? I spent 18 hours rebuilding servers, and all because of pepperoni and cheese. This acquisition won’t fix stupid people, just make them more expensive to enable.
