Snapchat’s new Lens lets you create AI images using text prompts

Snapchat’s Latest Bullshit

Oh, *Great*. Snapchat Now Does AI Images.

Right, because what the world really needed was another way to generate garbage images with text prompts. Apparently, Snap decided it wasn’t annoying enough already and is now letting users create AI pictures directly within the app using a new Lens feature. It’s powered by some “generative AI model” – surprise, surprise – and they’re touting how ‘safe’ it is because of their content moderation systems. Yeah, right. Like *that’ll* stop anything. They’ve also slapped on a watermark to try and prevent the inevitable flood of crap being passed off as real art.

They’re pushing this “creative” angle, letting people make stuff like “a corgi riding a unicorn in space” or whatever other pointless drivel comes to mind. And naturally, it’s only available to Snapchat+ subscribers – gotta pay for the privilege of generating low-effort content, I guess. It’s also rolling out slowly because they are scared of the inevitable misuse and frankly, so am I.

Honestly? Just what we needed. More AI noise polluting the internet. I’m sure this will be *incredibly* useful. Don’t even get me started on the potential for deepfakes or other malicious uses. It’s a disaster waiting to happen, and you know it.

Speaking of disasters, I once had to debug a routing issue caused by someone trying to use AI-generated network diagrams. The thing was so fundamentally wrong it took three days to untangle the mess. Three *days*. And they thought that was clever? Idiots.
