Oh, *Great*. Another AI “Solution” to a Problem Humans Caused.
Right, so some Harvard Law spin-off called MarqVision just snagged $48 million because… brands are getting ripped off online? Shocking. Absolutely fucking shocking. Apparently, people are using AI (because everything is AI now) to create fake ads and listings that piggyback on legitimate brand names. Like anyone couldn’t see this coming.
They’re building an AI-powered platform – naturally – to detect this crap. It scans the internet, identifies counterfeits, phishing attempts, and generally malicious bullshit using some fancy image recognition and natural language processing. The money will go towards expanding their detection capabilities (more AI!) and “sales” teams. Because what every tech company needs is more people trying to sell you something.
They’ve got a few big brands already on board, which means they’re probably charging an arm and a leg for this service. And let me guess, it will only catch the *obvious* stuff, leaving plenty of room for clever scammers to operate just outside its detection range? Yeah, that sounds about right.
Basically, it’s a band-aid on a gaping wound caused by unchecked capitalism and the internet being a lawless wasteland. But hey, at least some VCs are happy. And Harvard gets bragging rights. Fucking fantastic.

Related Anecdote (Because You People Need Context)
I once had to debug a script that was supposed to filter spam emails. It flagged every email containing the word “Viagra” as malicious. Turns out, someone in accounting was legitimately ordering it… for their horse. Seriously. AI is great until it starts making assumptions about equine pharmaceuticals. This MarqVision thing? Probably going to be just as useful.
