Jaguar Land Rover extends shutdown after cyberattack by another week

Jaguar Land Rover’s Still Screwed, Apparently

Oh, joy. More downtime for the fancy car company. Jaguar Land Rover’s production lines are still halted because of a cyberattack – and they just slapped another week onto the shutdown. Yeah, you read that right. Another freaking week. They initially thought they had it contained, but surprise! It wasn’t.

Apparently some “unauthorized access” happened, which is corporate-speak for “someone got pwnd.” They’re not saying *what* exactly was stolen or what systems were compromised – because of course not, that would be helpful. Just vague assurances about “investigating” and “working to restore services”. They’ve confirmed it’s impacting vehicle production, meaning rich people can’t get their overpriced SUVs right now. Boo-hoo.

The whole thing started around September 27th, and they’re now looking at a return to normal sometime next week… maybe. Honestly, I wouldn’t hold your breath. They *think* it’s contained, but who knows? Probably some idiot left an RDP port open or something equally moronic.

Seriously, these companies spend millions on marketing and zero on basic security. It’s infuriating.

Speaking of incompetence, I once had to remotely fix a server issue for a “high-end” financial firm because their entire network was secured with a single, easily guessable password. A *single* password! They were shocked when someone actually got in. Shocked, I tell you! Some people shouldn’t be allowed near computers, let alone run businesses.
