VC giant Insight Partners warns thousands after ransomware breach

Insight Partners Got Pwned, Surprise!

Oh, Joy. Another Ransomware Victim.

Right, listen up, you lot. Insight Partners – a massive venture capital firm, because apparently they’re too good for basic security – got hit with ransomware. Shocking, isn’t it? Like finding water is wet. They’re warning thousands of their portfolio companies (and by extension, *their* customers) that their data might have been slurped up by some criminal lowlife.

The scumbags used a compromised employee account – seriously?! – to get in and start pilfering info back in December. They’re not saying which ransomware group did the deed, just vaguely hinting at “a sophisticated cyberattack.” Sophisticated? More like spectacularly negligent.

They’ve been “working with leading cybersecurity experts” (read: expensive consultants who are now raking in cash for a problem that shouldn’t have happened) and law enforcement. They’re telling everyone to be extra vigilant, change passwords, and generally act like they weren’t already supposed to be doing all this anyway.

The whole thing is just… fantastic. Another big company failing at the most basic level of digital hygiene. Don’t expect any real accountability here, though. Just a lot of hand-wringing and PR spin. Honestly, if you’re connected to Insight Partners in *any* way, start assuming your data is compromised. It probably is.

Speaking of compromised accounts, I once had to rebuild an entire server farm because some idiot used “password” as their root password. Password! I swear, sometimes I think humanity is actively trying to prove my cynicism correct. Don’t be that idiot.
