Alex Ryan: From zero chill to quiet confidence

Ugh, Another “Inspirational” Story

Seriously? This Again.

Right, so some dude named Alex Ryan used to be a complete screw-up – apparently bouncing between jobs like a ping pong ball and generally being useless in the cybersecurity world. He was all over the place, no focus, couldn’t stick with anything. Talos (Cisco’s little security brain trust) took pity on him, or something, and put him through their training program. And *surprise surprise*, he actually got good at it.

The whole article is about how he went from being a chaotic mess to… wait for it… having “quiet confidence.” Like that’s some monumental achievement. It’s basically a feel-good piece about how structured training and mentorship can turn a liability into an asset. Groundbreaking stuff, I tell ya.

They talk about his work now – threat hunting, malware analysis, writing reports… all the things you *should* be doing if you’re not actively trying to get fired. Apparently he’s good at it now and is a valuable member of the team. Fantastic. Someone finally managed to point him in one direction.

Honestly, the whole thing feels like a recruitment ad disguised as a human interest story. “See? We can fix *anyone*! Come work for us, you potentially broken individuals!” It’s nauseatingly positive.

Look, it’s fine he turned things around. Good for him. But I swear, if I have to read one more article about someone “finding their passion” after a corporate training program, I’m going to start randomly deleting user accounts. Don’t bother me with this fluff.

Speaking of useless people… once had a sysadmin who thought “backing up the server” meant copying the entire contents to his external hard drive and taking it home every night. Lost the drive, naturally. The ensuing chaos was *beautiful*. At least that was entertaining.
