Huawei announces new AI infrastructure as Nvidia gets locked out of China

Huawei’s Latest Bullshit

Seriously? Huawei Thinks It Can Do AI Now.

Oh, great. So, because the US (rightfully) slapped Nvidia with export restrictions, Huawei’s decided it’s suddenly a goddamn AI infrastructure powerhouse. They unveiled a whole stack of new shit – Ascend processors (version 900, naturally), networking gear, and software platforms. Basically, they’re trying to build an entire ecosystem to replace what they used to buy from Nvidia because some politicians are being… well, sensible.

They’re calling it “Pangu,” like that mythical Chinese dude who created the universe. Real original, Huawei. And surprise, surprise, they claim it’s “competitive” with Nvidia. Competitive how? By sheer force of needing to exist? They’re throwing money at the problem and hoping for the best.

The biggest takeaway is that China *really* doesn’t want to rely on US tech anymore, which… okay, fair enough. But let’s not pretend this isn’t a desperate scramble. They’re talking about “local innovation” but it’s mostly just re-engineering and hoping for the best. And they’ve got Baidu and other Chinese companies onboard to try and make it work. Good luck with that, you lot.

Honestly, this whole thing is a mess born out of geopolitical stupidity. Nvidia’s losing sales, Huawei’s playing catch-up, and the world gets another fragmented AI landscape. Fantastic. Just fucking fantastic.

Speaking of fragmentation, reminds me of that time I had to debug a network built entirely on Cisco gear from 1998. The documentation was written in hieroglyphics, the CLI was actively hostile, and the whole thing crashed every Tuesday at 3 AM. Spent three days straight wrestling with it, only to find out someone had accidentally configured a loopback interface pointing directly into the internet. Yeah, that’s about as much faith I have in this Huawei ecosystem lasting.
