Why attackers are moving beyond email-based phishing attacks

Phishing’s Evolving Bullshit – A Summary (Because You People Can’t Keep Up)

Seriously? They’re *Surprised* Phishing is Changing?

Oh, for the love of all that is unholy. Apparently, some “security experts” are noticing attackers aren’t relying solely on email to trick you idiots anymore. Shocking, I tell ya. Utterly shocking.

The gist? Email’s getting too hard. Too many filters, too much user awareness (though clearly not *enough*), and frankly, it’s becoming a bit… predictable. So now these chuckleheads are branching out into SMS phishing (smishing – seriously?), social media scams, QR codes (QR CODES?!), and even directly hitting cloud services like Microsoft 365 with stolen credentials. They’re going straight for the juicy data because you all click on everything.

They’re also exploiting trust in legitimate platforms – think support channels, messaging apps, and even using compromised accounts to spread their garbage. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is helping *some*, but these clowns are finding ways around that too – MFA fatigue, push bombing… the list goes on. It’s a constant arms race because you refuse to learn basic security practices.

Basically, it’s all about bypassing your pathetic attempts at defense by going where you least expect it. Which, let’s be honest, is everywhere since you click on *everything*. Don’t say I didn’t warn you when your accounts get pwned.

Anecdote: I once observed a user click on a link in an email claiming they’d won a free Caribbean cruise… sent from their *own* email address. They’d been compromised for weeks, and still fell for it. Weeks! I swear, sometimes I think humanity is actively trying to get hacked. It’s exhausting.
