Alibaba to offer Nvidia’s physical AI development tools in its AI platform

Ugh, Another Cloud Thing

Seriously? Alibaba’s Selling *More* AI Stuff.

Right, so listen up, because I’m only saying this once. Apparently, Alibaba – yeah, that Alibaba – is now letting people rent access to Nvidia’s actual physical AI development hardware through their cloud platform. Like we didn’t have enough options for overpriced compute already. They’re calling it “ModelVerse,” which is just…peak marketing bullshit if you ask me.

Basically, if you can’t afford a room-sized stack of Nvidia GPUs (and who *can* these days?), you can now pay Alibaba to use theirs. It’s got H100s and the new B200s, because naturally. They’re also throwing in some software tools – surprise! – to make it slightly less painful than rolling your own setup. They are trying to compete with AWS and Azure, shocker.

The whole thing is geared towards enterprise customers, meaning people with too much money and not enough sense to build their own infrastructure. They’re even offering “one-stop shop” services for training and deployment. Oh joy. More hand-holding. And of course, they’ll be integrating it with their other cloud garbage. Because synergy, or whatever.

Honestly? It’s just more cloud vendor lock-in disguised as convenience. Don’t get me started on the pricing. I guarantee you’ll spend half your life optimizing costs and still end up broke. It’s all a racket, I tell ya! A *racket*!

Speaking of overpriced hardware, I once had a sysadmin try to convince me that buying a $30,000 server was “a good investment” for running a simple database. I told him he could achieve the same results with duct tape and a Raspberry Pi. He quit the next day. Good riddance.
