Co-op says it lost $107 million after Scattered Spider attack

Seriously? Another One.

Right, listen up, you lot. Co-op, that… *grocery store* apparently got absolutely hammered by Scattered Spider – a ransomware gang so creatively named it’s practically offensive. They lost £107 million (that’s like, a LOT of money) because some idiot let these clowns in.

Apparently, they were getting hit since *last year*, but didn’t bother to properly secure things. Phishing emails? Seriously?! In this day and age? They’re blaming it on compromised credentials – meaning someone clicked something they shouldn’t have. And then, predictably, data got stolen, systems went down, and now everyone is annoyed.

They’re trying to recover, naturally, but the damage is done. 107 million quid gone because of basic security failures. They are also saying that they expect more costs as time goes on. Honestly, it’s a masterclass in how *not* to run an IT department. And you wonder why I have trust issues.

The worst part? This isn’t some sophisticated zero-day exploit. It was phishing. Phishing. I swear, sometimes I think humanity is actively trying to prove me right about its inherent stupidity.

Don’t even get me started on the fact they are now having to spend money fixing this mess that could have been avoided with basic training and security measures. Idiots. The lot of them.

And a story for you…

Back in ’98, I was managing a network for a small firm. The owner decided he knew better than the security protocols *I* implemented and disabled the firewall “because it slowed down his solitaire.” Three days later, we were cleaning up after a script kiddie had defaced the website and stolen all their customer data. Sound familiar? Yeah, thought so. Some things never change.
