Seriously? Another Office Version?
Ugh. Fine. Apparently, some people *still* use desktop Office and Microsoft expects money from them. This article boils down to this: Microsoft is pushing “Office 2024” – a one-time purchase version of the apps – alongside their subscription nightmare, Microsoft 365. It’s for those too cheap or stubborn to just pay monthly like everyone else.
Here’s the breakdown, because you clearly can’t figure it out yourself:
- Office 2024: Perpetual license (read: you buy it once, updates are limited). Good for *very* basic users who hate everything modern. Includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Microsoft 365 Apps: Subscription. Constant updates, cloud features, the whole shebang. Basically, they want your soul on a recurring payment plan.
The article whines about feature differences – Microsoft 365 gets all the shiny new toys (AI crap, collaboration nonsense). Office 2024 is… adequate. It also points out licensing complexities because *of course* it does. Microsoft wouldn’t be Microsoft if things were simple.
They spend a lot of time explaining how to upgrade from 2016/2019, which frankly, should be self-explanatory if you have half a brain. It involves downloading stuff and clicking “next” repeatedly. Shocking, I know.
Bottom line? If you absolutely *must* stick with desktop Office, get 2024. Otherwise, just bite the bullet and subscribe to Microsoft 365. Or learn LibreOffice. Seriously, consider LibreOffice. Just… stop bothering me about it.
Look, I once had to support a user who refused to upgrade from Office 2007 because “it just worked.” “Just worked” meant she couldn’t open files created by anyone else and blamed *me* for the incompatibility. I swear, some people are actively trying to make my life worse. Don’t be that person.
