Seriously? More About This AI Crap
Right, so apparently building these goddamn AI things isn’t just about magical thinking and stolen data. Who knew? This article – and I use that term loosely – details how a *shit-ton* of money is being thrown at the actual hardware needed to run all this nonsense. We’re talking billions going to companies like Digital Realty, CyrusOne, and Equinix because someone finally realized you need places to *put* the servers.
Nvidia’s still king, obviously. Everyone’s scrambling for their GPUs like they’re the last toilet paper roll in 2020. Microsoft and Amazon are building out their own data centers too, because cloud is apparently still a thing (don’t ask me why). Hyperscalers want control, shocker.
The whole thing boils down to this: AI needs power, cooling, space, and networking. A *lot* of it. And that costs money. Big money. So these infrastructure providers are laughing all the way to the bank while everyone else pretends they’re on the cusp of some revolutionary breakthrough. It’s just… a lot of really expensive plumbing, honestly.
Oh, and there’s talk about “sustainable” AI. Yeah, right. Like anyone actually cares when they can shove more processing power down your throat. Don’t believe the hype.
Look, I once had to debug a routing issue caused by a rogue hamster in a data center cooling system. A *hamster*. That’s more interesting than 90% of this AI garbage. And frankly, less likely to cause existential dread.
