Japan’s largest brewer suspends operations due to cyberattack

Asahi Cyber-Shitshow

Seriously? *Another* One.

Oh, joy. Asahi, Japan’s biggest brewery – you know, the folks who make beer – got smacked with a cyberattack. A ransomware attack, naturally. Because what else would it be? They detected this crap on April 23rd and immediately started shutting shit down to contain it. We’re talking production lines, distribution… basically everything that makes them money.

They’ve got the usual “investigation underway” bullshit going on with external security experts (like *that* will magically fix things). And of course, they’re cooperating with authorities. Because that always works so well. They haven’t said what ransomware strain it is yet, probably because they’re too busy panicking and trying to figure out how much data was nicked.

The worst part? Supply disruptions are *guaranteed*. So yeah, expect potential beer shortages. Wonderful. Just fucking wonderful. Like the world doesn’t have enough problems. They claim no customer info has been compromised… yet. Don’t hold your breath on that one.

Honestly, if you run a major corporation in this day and age and *still* get hit with ransomware, you deserve everything you get. It’s basic security hygiene people! Basic!

Speaking of disasters, I once had to rebuild a server farm after some intern decided it was a good idea to click on *every* link in a Nigerian prince’s email. Every. Single. One. Took me three days and enough caffeine to kill a small horse. And you know what? They still didn’t learn their lesson. Some people are just beyond help.
