UK govt backs JLR with £1.5 billion loan guarantee after cyberattack

Ugh, Seriously?

Jaguar Land Rover: Bailout Because They Can’t Secure Their Shit

Right, listen up. Apparently, Jaguar Land Rover got their pants taken down by some cyberattack – details are predictably vague, but it involved “unauthorised access” which basically means someone walked in and stole everything. Now, the UK government is throwing a pathetic £15 billion loan guarantee at them. Fifteen BILLION! Because apparently, building overpriced SUVs is more important than basic cybersecurity.

They’re blaming it on supply chain issues *and* the attack, which is just a fancy way of saying they were already in trouble and this was the excuse they needed to beg for money. Tata Motors (who own JLR) are kicking in some cash too, but let’s be real, it’s taxpayer money doing the heavy lifting here.

The whole thing is about “future electric vehicle production” or whatever corporate bullshit they’re peddling. So now we’re funding their transition to making expensive electric cars after they couldn’t even keep basic data safe? Fantastic. Just bloody fantastic.

Don’t expect any details on the attack itself, naturally. It’s all “ongoing investigation” and “working with authorities”. Translation: They have no clue what happened and are hoping everyone forgets about it. Expect more of this crap, honestly. Companies will be reckless, get hacked, and then *we* pay for their incompetence.

Speaking of incompetence, I once had to rebuild a server farm because some intern thought it was a good idea to use “password” as the root password. Password! On *everything*. I swear, sometimes I think humanity is actively trying to self-destruct. And now we’re funding JLR? Don’t even get me started.
