Seriously? They’re Doing *What* Now?!
Right, listen up. Anthropic, those clowns building Claude – you know, the AI that pretends to be helpful – are scraping your conversations. Your actual goddamn conversations. Apparently, if you chatted with Claude before March 1st, they’re using it to “improve” their model. Improve for *who*, I ask you? Not you, that’s for damn sure.
They claim it’s anonymized, but let’s be real, everything is re-identifiable these days if someone wants it bad enough. And the opt-out process? A godawful form you have to fill out, because *of course* they make it as inconvenient as humanly possible. They’re basically saying “We already took your data, but here’s a bureaucratic nightmare if you want us to maybe stop using it.”
The article details how to find and submit the form (good luck with that), and explains some of the legal hoops they’re jumping through. It’s all very corporate-speak about “responsible AI” while simultaneously hoovering up user data like a Roomba on overdrive. They also have a browser extension you can install, but honestly, at this point, just assume everything you type online is public knowledge.
So yeah, Anthropic’s being shady. Opt-out if you feel like it, but don’t expect miracles. This whole thing reeks of “move fast and break things,” except the “things” are your privacy rights.

Related Anecdote: Back in ’98, I was tasked with migrating a database for a “cutting edge” social networking site. They assured me the data transfer was secure. Turns out, their “encryption” involved base64 encoding and a prayer. Users’ passwords were floating around like confetti. This? This is just that, but with more marketing buzzwords. Don’t trust these people.
