Seriously? Microsoft *Again*
Oh, joy. Microsoft bollocksed up their Digital Rights Management (DRM) system again. Apparently, a recent update completely neutered video playback for anyone using Windows – specifically, it broke the ability to play videos from services like Disney+, Hulu, Netflix and even the fucking Microsoft Store itself. Like, *basic* functionality. Users were getting errors, black screens, or just…nothing. Fantastic.
They tried a fix via their “Known Issue Rollback” program – basically admitting they screwed up royally and yanked the offending update from some systems. It didn’t work for everyone, naturally. Because why would it? Now, they’ve released another update (KB5034471) that *partially* fixes things. “Partially.” Meaning there are still reports of issues lingering for some poor sods. They claim the issue was caused by changes to Media Foundation – which is just tech-speak for “we didn’t test this properly.”
The workaround, if you’re unlucky enough to be affected? Reinstalling the problematic app. Or, and I quote, “contact your device manufacturer.” Oh, *brilliant*. Pass the buck, why don’t you? It’s always someone else’s fault.
Honestly, it’s a clusterfuck of incompetence. They push updates without proper testing, break core features, then expect users to fix their messes. I swear, sometimes I think they do this on purpose just to watch the world burn.
Don’t even get me started on the fact that DRM is fundamentally broken and a security nightmare anyway. But hey, gotta protect those precious streaming licenses, right? Never mind the user experience.

And a Story For Ya…
Back in ’98, I was managing a network for a small ISP. Some genius decided to implement a software-based content filter that broke DNS lookups every Tuesday at 3 AM. Every. Single. Tuesday. The fix? Rebooting the server. Every. Single. Tuesday. Sound familiar? Microsoft is just a bigger, more expensive version of that same headache. I’m starting to think they hire people specifically for their ability to create chaos.
