New Android Trojan “Datzbro” Tricking Elderly with AI-Generated Facebook Travel Events

Ugh, Another Fucking Android Trojan

Seriously? Datzbro.

Oh joy, another goddamn Android trojan is making the rounds. This one’s called “Datzbro” – because apparently naming malware creatively is just too much effort these days. It targets elderly Facebook users (because of course it does, they’re easy marks) by shoving AI-generated travel event invites in their faces.

These aren’t your grandma’s clunky phishing attempts either; the AI makes them look legit enough to fool people who probably still think email is a new technology. Once someone clicks on those links, it downloads a malicious app that steals Facebook credentials and then uses those accounts to spread more of these godforsaken invites. It’s a self-replicating nightmare fueled by gullibility.

The worst part? It’s been active since at least January 2024, meaning some poor sods have been spreading this crap for almost two years now without even knowing it. And the researchers are saying it’s evolving – so expect more sophisticated bullshit soon. They’re calling out Meta for being slow on the uptake, which frankly, is just stating the obvious.

Basically, tell your relatives to not click *anything* on Facebook unless they absolutely trust the source. And if they do, immediately factory reset their phone and question all of their life choices. It’s a pain in my digital ass dealing with this crap.

I once had to clean up a network where the CEO’s mother clicked on an ad promising free cruises. The resulting ransomware attack cost the company six figures and my sanity. Six fucking figures. I swear, some people are just asking for trouble.
