Seriously? OpenAI’s Launching a TikTok Clone.
Right, so after everyone and their grandmother figured out how to make AI videos, OpenAI’s decided they need a piece of the short-form video pie too. They’re calling it “Sora,” because apparently naming things is hard. And naturally, alongside this monumentally original idea, they’re releasing Sora 2 – surprise! – which makes even *more* AI videos. Faster, longer, better resolution… blah, blah, blah. Like the world needed more generated content clogging up the internet.
They’re trying to spin it as a “creative playground” and all that corporate bullshit. It’s basically TikTok but with slightly less chance of actual human talent. And they’re throwing money at creators to get them on board, because *obviously* organic growth is for suckers. They even have some “safety features” now, after the initial Sora release was a complete dumpster fire of deepfakes and copyright violations. Shocking.
The app’s launching in select countries first – probably to test how much chaos it can unleash before rolling it out globally. Expect endless loops of AI-generated cats doing stupid things, and more legal headaches for everyone involved. Honestly, I’m starting to think these people just sit around brainstorming ways to make the internet worse.
Oh, and they’re talking about letting users monetize their creations. Fantastic. More incentive to flood the zone with garbage. Just what we needed.
Look, I once had to debug a script that generated random haikus for a marketing campaign. It was supposed to be “whimsical.” It ended up being mostly about broken printers and existential dread. This Sora thing feels… similar. Except on a much larger scale of impending doom.
