Seriously? Westjet Got Hacked. Again.
Oh, joy. Another airline can’t keep its shit together. Westjet just admitted to a data breach – surprise, surprise – and this time it’s not just your frequent flyer miles at risk, but your actual passport information. Like, the stuff you need to *leave the country* information. Fantastic.
Apparently, some unauthorized access happened between October 29th and November 1st, 2023. They’re saying roughly 6% of their customers were affected, which translates to a whole lot of pissed-off people now scrambling to figure out if they need new passports because some idiot couldn’t secure a database. They’ve notified the authorities (because *now* they care) and are offering credit monitoring – like that’s going to fix everything.
The worst part? They don’t even know exactly what was stolen from everyone, just that passport data was involved. So you get to sit around wondering if your identity is about to be used for nefarious purposes. Wonderful. Just bloody wonderful.
If you’ve flown Westjet recently, assume you’re compromised and start preparing for a headache. Don’t trust these clowns with anything important. Seriously.
Look, I once had to rebuild a server farm using nothing but duct tape and spite after some “expert” decided to ‘optimize’ the cooling system with bubble wrap. Bubble wrap! This Westjet thing? It’s just… predictable. Humans are consistently awful at security. Consistently. Don’t expect me to be surprised when the next one happens.
