New bug in classic Outlook can only be fixed via Microsoft support

Outlook is STILL Broken – Courtesy of Microsoft

Seriously? Outlook. *Again.*

Oh, joy. Another fucking bug in Classic Outlook (because apparently Microsoft can’t be bothered to actually fix things). This one causes the search function to just…stop working. Like, completely useless. You type something in, and it stares back at you with the digital equivalent of a blank expression.

And here’s the kicker? You can’t fix this yourself. No, no self-respecting user is allowed to solve their own problems. Microsoft *requires* you to contact support. Support! As if we don’t have better things to do than wait on hold listening to awful music while some drone reads from a script. They’ll run some PowerShell commands for you – because god forbid they release an actual patch.

It affects Outlook versions 2013, 2016, 2019, and Office 365 (the one that keeps changing names to confuse everyone). So basically, if you’re still using the desktop version of Outlook – which, why are you?! – you’re probably screwed unless you want to beg Microsoft for help. It seems a registry key is involved, but they won’t tell *you* what it is.

Honestly, this isn’t a bug; it’s a hostage situation. They want you on the subscription model, and breaking old software is apparently part of the plan. Don’t even get me started on the fact that they haven’t acknowledged this publicly beyond telling support to deal with it.

Related Anecdote: Back in ’98, I had a user who’s Excel macro kept crashing. Turned out they’d copy-pasted code from Geocities. Geocities! Microsoft support tried to tell *me* it was a hardware issue. Hardware. For a broken macro. I fixed it in five minutes with a text editor, but the principle remains: Microsoft will blame you before admitting their own garbage is at fault.
