Right, so OpenAI – those geniuses who brought you the chatbot that hallucinates facts and now wants your job – have unleashed another monstrosity called Sora. It makes videos from text prompts. Yeah, you heard me. Videos. Like, realistic-ish deepfakes on demand. Apparently, typing “a cat riding a Roomba in Times Square” will actually *generate* that crap.

The article basically says it’s shockingly good for an AI video generator, but also riddled with problems. It struggles with consistent characters (because of course it does), physics are wonky (shocker!), and the whole thing is a copyright nightmare waiting to explode. They’re “carefully” releasing it to select users now, which means they’re letting *them* break it first before unleashing it on the rest of us.

And naturally, everyone’s already talking about how this will ruin entertainment. Actors? Directors? Forget about ’em. Just type a script and let the machine vomit out some garbage. It’ll be glorious for the shareholders, absolutely devastating for actual human creativity. They mention safety concerns too, like disinformation and… oh god… *pornography*. Because that’s always the first thing people do with powerful tech, isn’t it?

Honestly? I’m not surprised. I’m just profoundly disappointed in humanity’s relentless pursuit of making things worse. This is going to be a disaster. A beautiful, pixelated, ethically bankrupt disaster.

Related Anecdote: Back in ’98, some idiot tried to automate the coffee machine with a Perl script. Ended up flooding the entire server room because he didn’t bother checking for error conditions. This Sora thing? It’s just that, but on a global scale and with potentially far more catastrophic consequences. Don’t even get me started on the resource consumption…
