Anthropic hires new CTO with focus on AI infrastructure

Anthropic Hires a New CTO – Ugh.

Seriously? Another AI Hire.

Right, so Anthropic – those Claude people, yeah? The ones desperately trying to not be evil like the *other* AI companies – have hired some dude named Denny Slaiby as their new CTO. Apparently, he used to run “infrastructure” at… wait for it… Snowflake. Snowflake! Like we needed more cloud bloat in our AI models.

The whole point of this exercise, if you can call it that, is apparently to scale up their AI infrastructure. Because building bigger isn’t always better, but these people seem to think it is. They want faster training times and lower costs – groundbreaking stuff, truly. They’re talking about custom silicon and all the usual buzzwords. Honestly, sounds like a massive waste of money if you ask me.

Slaiby’s supposed to bring “operational excellence” or some other corporate garbage. Look, just make the damn AI work without hallucinating constantly, okay? That’s what people actually care about. And don’t even get me started on the inevitable security nightmares this will create. More complexity equals more ways for things to go horribly wrong.

Basically, Anthropic is throwing money at a problem they should be solving with better algorithms and less… ambition. It’s just infuriating. Expect Claude to become slightly faster at sounding vaguely human while still being fundamentally useless.

Speaking of infrastructure, I once had to debug a routing issue on a legacy system that involved a teletype machine and a very angry sysadmin. Turns out someone had replaced the ribbon with a grocery list. A grocery list! This is the level of competence we’re dealing with. Don’t expect any miracles from Anthropic, either.
