Anthropic plans to open India office, eyes tie-up with billionaire Ambani

Ugh, Another One…

Anthropic’s Latest Clusterfuck: India Edition

Right, so listen up. Anthropic – yeah, the Claude people, still trying to be OpenAI but less… competent – are opening an office in *India*. Fantastic. As if we didn’t have enough data centers sucking up power and spewing out vaguely coherent text already.

Apparently, they’re hooking up with Mukesh Ambani, a billionaire who owns basically everything in India. Why? Because cheap labor and access to more data, obviously. They’re talking about “research collaboration” and building AI models for the local market. Translation: train Claude on even *more* questionable datasets and hope it doesn’t start spouting nationalist propaganda.

They’ll be starting small with a team of 20 people, but you just *know* this is going to balloon into some massive operation that requires more electricity than a small country. And don’t even get me started on the potential for regulatory headaches. India’s data privacy laws are… let’s say “evolving”.

The whole thing reeks of “let’s scale fast and ask questions later.” Honestly, it’s just more fuel for the AI hype machine. Don’t expect anything revolutionary; expect more marketing fluff and slightly-less-bad chatbots.

Seriously, can’t these companies just… *stop*?

Speaking of questionable data, I once had to debug a system that was trained entirely on forum posts from a 4chan board. The results were… predictably awful. It started generating existential threats and offering unsolicited advice on building improvised explosives. Good times. Don’t ask.
