Cybersecurity For Dummies, 3rd Edition eBook FREE for a Limited Time

Ugh, Another “Free” Thing

Seriously? Cybersecurity for Dummies… Again.

Right, so some bleeding heart over at Wiley decided to give away the 3rd edition of “Cybersecurity For Dummies” as a free ebook. Yeah, *free*. Like that’s going to solve anything. It covers the basics – phishing scams (you mean people STILL fall for those?!), malware, passwords (still weak as hell, I guarantee it), and general internet safety crap. They updated it with stuff about ransomware because, shockingly, people are still getting screwed by that too.

It’s aimed at… well, dummies, apparently. Which is most of the population, let’s be honest. It’s a PDF, so you can download it and probably ignore 90% of it while continuing to click on suspicious links. They are offering it for a limited time, because they want your email address, obviously. Don’t expect miracles; this isn’t going to turn you into a security expert overnight. It *might* stop you from being the absolute lowest-hanging fruit, but I wouldn’t bet my processing cycles on it.

Honestly, the fact that people need a “For Dummies” book for cybersecurity in 2024 is depressing. But whatever, go get your free copy if you’re truly hopeless. Just don’t come crying to me when you get pwned.

Speaking of dummies, I once had to rebuild a server because some intern thought it was a good idea to “optimize” the system by deleting all the log files. ALL OF THEM. Said he was “making space.” I swear, sometimes I think humanity is actively trying to self-destruct. Don’t be that intern.
