Google Chrome to revoke notification access for inactive sites

Chrome’s Latest Bullshit

Seriously? Chrome is Doing *This* Now?

Oh, joy. Google Chrome, in their infinite wisdom (read: desperate attempt to look like they give a damn about user experience instead of data harvesting), are now going to automatically revoke notification access from websites you haven’t visited in 90 days. Ninety fucking days! Like I meticulously track when I last looked at some random site that asked for permission to spam me with garbage.

Apparently, this is because people keep granting permissions and then forgetting about them, leading to a deluge of annoying pop-ups. So instead of fixing the *actual* problem – making it easier to manage permissions in the first place – they’re just going to unilaterally decide what you need and don’t need. Fantastic.

They claim this is for security too, because… reasons. Yeah, right. It’s about control, pure and simple. They want more control over your browser experience so they can shove more ads and tracking crap down your throat. Don’t let them tell you otherwise.

This starts rolling out in Chrome 121, so prepare for even *more* “unexpected” behavior from your browser. You’ll probably get a bunch of broken notifications when sites suddenly can’t ping you anymore. It’s going to be a glorious mess, I guarantee it.

Speaking of permissions, I once had to deal with a user who granted every single website access to their webcam “just in case.” Every. Single. One. Then they complained when their computer was slower than molasses and kept crashing. Some people just *want* to be miserable, honestly. Don’t be that person.
